Club Accounts

Club Accounts are similar to Special Savings Accounts, however, they have a distinct purpose and set disbursement dates. America’s Credit Union offers a Christmas Club and a Vacation Club.

Christmas Club: You can open a Christmas Club Account at any time with a $5 minimum deposit. Most often, members fund this account with a direct deposit from their employer throughout the year, however, you can also make deposits any time that works best for you.

You can withdraw money from your Christmas Club Account between November 1 and December 31 to cover holiday shopping expenses, free of charge. There is a $5 fee per withdraw or transfer money between January 1 and October 31.

Vacation Club: You can open a Vacation Club Account any time of the year with a $5 minimum deposit. Make periodic deposits, or schedule direct deposits from your employer to save for the vacation of your dreams!

You can withdraw money from your Vacation Club Account between April 1 and August 31 to pay for your travel expenses, free of charge. There is a $5 fee per withdraw or transfer money between September 1 and March 31.

The Fastest Ways to Grow the Balance in Your Special Savings Account

Depositing money on a regular basis will help you grow your Special Savings Account balance faster. Set up direct deposit with your employer so the money is deposited before you get it in your paycheck.

If you’re not familiar with the 52 Week Savings Challenge it’s also an effective and easy way to add to your Special Savings Account.

On the first week deposit $1 into your Special Savings Account. On the second week put $2 in your account. Continue this pattern so on the 52nd week you’re depositing $52 into your Special Savings Account. At the end of a year, you will have saved $1,378 plus interest! For other variations of this savings plan check out our blog post Three Ways to Make the 52 Week Savings Challenge Work for You.

Lastly, you may want to consider eliminating one or two ways you spend your money on “extras” to focus on saving it instead. Going out to eat at restaurants or ordering delivery rather than cooking at home can get expensive. Unused memberships to gyms, clubs, and other programs also add up. Look for ways to reinvest that money into your future by putting it into a Special Savings Account instead!
